20 000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne

Found a brilliant 1970's version of this book in a junk shop, and initially just bought it for the illustrations. But it's one of the best science fiction stories I've ever read, it had an essence of John Wyndam about it (The Day of the Triffids/ The Midwich Cuckoos). Not just a children book.
